The Pip Squeeks began in 2011 with guitarist Jacob Ellzey, bassist Miranda Zipse, and drummer Jordan Levine. The trio united over their shared love of high-energy rock n’ roll and a desire to play loud music for their friends to dance to. The group practiced in a bedroom during the week and on weekends, filled their local burger restaurant with highschoolers and rock n’ roll fans alike.
Zipse and Ellzey wrote for the group, drawing their sound from the hard-hitting proto-punk of the 1960's tempered by surf and psychedelic sounds. Some of the biggest influences on the band’s early development were record suggestions from Bob Gamber, drummer for The Tomb Weavers and owner of The Vinyl Revolution record store in Pacific Grove, CA. Gamber supplied the nuggets that inspired the duo’s songwriting process.
After two years playing shows around Central California and Nevada, the trio recorded all their originals at Real to Reel Studio in Seaside, CA. In one live-tracking session, the energetic, raw sound of The Pip Squeeks was committed to tape.
The trio's new 45 features two songs from that session, exclusively licensed to Get Hip Recordings. Driving guitar and clipping, gritty vocals sneer on both sides of this record. “In My Mind” is a straightforward rocker with a steady backbeat and a fuzzy bass groove. B-side “My Baby’s Cruel” is an aggressive garage explosion that features Zipse's melodic vocal lines.
