Coming a year after Neighbours’ debut 7-inch on Get Hip, Prime Numbers is a proper debut for the Pittsburgh four-piece — a collection of 12 rock tunes ranging from snotty to soulful to sweet.

The band proves that it can keep it reined in on soft love songs like “What Did You Say?” but lets it all hang out on the punk-inflected “All the Time” (a The Jam-style anthem). Singer Michael Cunningham shows off soul-shouter vocals on “Real Talk,” and the rhythm section bares its raw power on the rocker “Green Shoes.”

Neighbours aren’t simply following trends. They’re writing catchy new tunes that reflect the intrinsic elements of classic rock ‘n roll while avoiding merely replicating the past.
